Ophelia

I have a fascination with the character of Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet. After seeing several paintings of Ophelia and her watery-grave death scene, I decided to recreate it. I bought an old wedding dress at a thrift store, and a friend and I went behind my house to a creek and took these pictures below.

The glass of fashion and the mould of form

O, what a noble mind is here o'erthrown!

Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so.

Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven,
Whiles, like a puff' d and reckless libertine,
Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads,
And reaks not his own rede.

My appreciation for Ophelia led me to the Pre-Raphealites and then to John Everett Millais. I had this painting  (see below) on the front of my binder throughout college. Several years after I graduated, I saw the original in the Tate Museum in London. I was so excited to see it in person that I cried.

So, as I flip through books, art magazines, blogs, flckr feeds etc., I am always looking for art with an Ophelia inspiration. Here are my most recent favorites.
